Trailwork Party on Smokejumper Trail, July 28

Please join Trails 2000 for Trailwork on Smokejumper Trail on Saturday, July 28, 2018. All weekend warriors, trail blazers, wanderers and trail lovers alike are invited to volunteer from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and should meet at the the north end of the trail, which is approximately four miles from the top of the Sugar/Skyline intersection and will take approximately an hour to walk from the four way intersection (Hyper Extended Ridge / Sugar / Skyline / Smokejumper). Registration is requested below. No experience is necessary for trailwork, and Trails 2000 will provide the necessary instruction and safety tool talk, all tools, gloves and water for volunteers.

The Smokejumper Trail, built in late fall of 2017, starts at the top of Skyline and runs north from Raider Ridge. The trail is in honor of Durango native Joseph Philpott who died in an avalanche in 2013 and worked for the BLM as a smokejumper based in Boise, Idaho. The trail honors Philpott’s adventurous, conscientious, and dynamic nature.
