Trailwork Party on Carbon Junction/Crites Connect, Sept. 16

Please join Trails 2000 and the Durango Running Club for Trailwork on Carbon Junction and Crites Connect on Sunday, September 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. All weekend warriors, trail blazers, wanderers and trail lovers alike are invited to volunteer and should meet at the Carbon Junction/Crites Connect intersection, accessed from the Carbon Junction Trailhead off Highway 3 in Durango. Registration is requested below. No experience is necessary for trailwork, and Trails 2000 will provide the necessary instruction and safety tool talk, all tools, gloves and water for volunteers.

When: Sunday, September 16, from 9am-12pm (GoogleCal, iCal/Outlook)
Where/Directions: Carbon Junction and Crites Connect; please meet at the Carbon Junction/Crites Connect intersection. From Main Avenue in Durango, take College Drive to 8th Avenue. Turn right on 8th Ave, which turns into Highway 3. Take Highway 3 for about 2.4 miles, and turn left into the Carbon Junction Trailhead parking area (right before Hwy 3 connects to Hwy 160/550). From the trailhead, head up Carbon Junction Trail until it intersects with Crites Connect (roughly 2 miles up the trail), where you will meet Trails 2000 crews for details/instruction.
What to wear: Volunteers should wear closed toe shoes or boots, long pants, shirt (long or short sleeved), sun hat, sunscreen, and bring a water bottle and rain jacket (optional). Trails 2000 will provide all tools, instruction, gloves and water.

Trailwork Party on Spur Line Trails, Sept 12

Please join Trails 2000 for Trailwork at the Spur Line trails in Three Springs, Wednesday, September 12, from 4-7 p.m. All weekend warriors, trail blazers, wanderers and trail lovers alike are invited to volunteer and should meet at the Spur Line Trailhead, from where crews will carpool to the site. Registration is requested below. No experience is necessary for trailwork, and Trails 2000 will provide the necessary instruction and safety tool talk, all tools, gloves and water for volunteers.

In partnership with Trails 2000, Three Springs officially opened the Spur Line trails in May 2018, which includes five new miles of introductory singletrack and a small pump track located off Wilson Gulch Road on the northeast side of Three Springs neighborhood. Where/Directions: Spur Line trails in Three Springs; please meet at the Spur Line Trailhead (directions), from where we will carpool to the worksite. We will be passing a locked gate so we request everyone show up at the designated start time to carpool and limit the number of cars on site. Folks are welcome to ride there, too. From Horse Gulch, take Cowboy to Grandview Ridge Road to the Three Springs Trails (you’ll cross a cattle guard with a kokopelli) and head east toward the Trails 2000 work truck.
What to wear: Volunteers should wear closed toe shoes or boots, long pants, shirt (long or short sleeved), sun hat, sunscreen, and bring a water bottle and rain jacket (optional). Trails 2000 will provide all tools, instruction, gloves and water.

Please join Trails 2000 for trailwork on Stacy’s Trail in Horse Gulch on Wednesday, September 5, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. All weekend warriors, trail blazers, wanderers and trail lovers alike are invited to volunteer and should meet at the Stacy’s/Cuchillo intersection. Registration is requested below. No experience is necessary for trailwork, and Trails 2000 will provide the necessary instruction and safety tool talk, all tools, gloves and water for volunteers. Please note: The intersection of Stacy’s/Cuchillo is a distance from the trailhead (~45 minute hike), so please plan accordingly.

Take a left at 3rd Street (by Horse Gulch Health Campus, before Sonic) and park in the Horse Gulch trailhead parking lot. From the trailhead, ride, hike or run up Horse Gulch Road to the Meadow Loop intersection. From the Meadow intersection, hike up Cuchillo Trail until it intersects with Stacy’s trail, where you’ll find the Trails 2000 crew with all tools and instruction.

Trailwork Party on Smokejumper Trail, July 28

Please join Trails 2000 for Trailwork on Smokejumper Trail on Saturday, July 28, 2018. All weekend warriors, trail blazers, wanderers and trail lovers alike are invited to volunteer from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and should meet at the the north end of the trail, which is approximately four miles from the top of the Sugar/Skyline intersection and will take approximately an hour to walk from the four way intersection (Hyper Extended Ridge / Sugar / Skyline / Smokejumper). Registration is requested below. No experience is necessary for trailwork, and Trails 2000 will provide the necessary instruction and safety tool talk, all tools, gloves and water for volunteers.

The Smokejumper Trail, built in late fall of 2017, starts at the top of Skyline and runs north from Raider Ridge. The trail is in honor of Durango native Joseph Philpott who died in an avalanche in 2013 and worked for the BLM as a smokejumper based in Boise, Idaho. The trail honors Philpott’s adventurous, conscientious, and dynamic nature.

No experience is necessary for trailwork, and Trails 2000 will provide the necessary instruction and safety tool talk, all tools, gloves, and snacks for the entire crew.

Colorado Public Lands Day Trailwork, May 19

Please join Trails 2000 and Pine Needle Mountaineering for a special day of Trailwork and Trail Clean Up on Saturday, May 19, in celebration of Colorado Public Lands Day (COPLD). Crews will work from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and volunteers should meet at the intersection of the Meadow and Horse Gulch Road, accessed from the Horse Gulch Trailhead. No experience is necessary for trailwork, and Trails 2000 will provide the necessary instruction and safety tool talk, all tools, gloves, and water and snacks for the entire crew. Registration is requested below.

Following trailwork, all volunteers are invited to a fun, family-friendly COPLD after-party celebration on Saturday night, May 19, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Powerhouse Science Center. Hosted by Conservation Colorado, the event features live music, dancing, food, local brews, and a public lands photo contest. Details can be found here.
