Part of the Fort Lewis College trail system.

The Nature Trail at Fort Lewis is a mile-long trail that connects Fort Lewis College and Durango. The Nature Trail is an interactive trail that has letters of the alphabet that extend through the trail, making the trail a fun hike for kids. It offers a beautiful view of Durango and an up-close look at nature. It is also the site of the Sky Steps, a 500 step stairway that extends from town to the college.

The Nature Trail begins at the south edge of the college, near the chapel and descends 300 feet. After a series of turns, the hike comes to an end at E. 10th Street and 6th Avenue.

To start going uphill, park near East 6th Avenue and 10th Street; the trail begins at the corner of East 6th Avenue and 10th Street. To start going downhill, from downtown Durango follow North College Drive, or 8th Avenue, to Rim Drive. Parking is available across from the chapel.
