The Telluride Valley Floor stretches for three miles along the CO-145 spur. This 570-acre forever-wild protected gateway to Telluride features meadows, the San Miguel River, and a year-round activity trail. Wildlife abounds on the Valley Floor from fish, fowl, prairie dogs and fox to herds of deer and elk. It is as much a place of peace and calm as it is a natural activity center.

In the summer, you can typically find people actively SUPing, kayaking, flyfishing or floating in tubes on the river. Others will be running, hiking and biking the River Trail. Photographers stop at various intervals along the spur to snap photos of the large elk herd.

In the winter, activities turn primarily to fat tire biking and Nordic skiing.  The Nordic Association grooms ski trails daily. The more intrepid might try kiteboarding! Traditionally a sport for the ocean, you may glimpse folks trying their skill here on the snow.

Prior to 2007, this area was owned by the San Miguel Valley Corporation. But after years of legal battles, ending in a Colorado Supreme Court case, the Valley Floor was purchased for $50 Million (through an enormous grassroots fundraising campaign) and is now preserved through a non-profit, Valley Floor Preservation Partners.
